How to use prefab panel fences

·         Defining spaces: Good, neighbor friendly models make attractive boundary markers.

·         Security: Board fences make good security structures, lattice panels do not.

·         Privacy: Good, solid boards block views. Board on board and lattice distract the eye.

·         Comfort zones: Good, solid panels cast shadows and vault the wind. Open structures filter breezes.

Installing prefabricated panel fence

1.      Following the manufacturer’s instructions, lay out and set the posts with the specified spacing. Let the concrete cure. Before installing each panel, test-fit it between the posts it should fit snugly. If it’s slightly undersize that’s ok, but if it isn’t wide enough to hang in the brackets, add trim stock to the edges. Trim oversize panels on both sides with a circular saw.

2.       Mark the position of the brackets on the posts as specified by the manufacturer and fasten the brackets to the posts. Use special care when driving bracket nails with a hammer so you don’t bend the bracket. Driving screws with a cordless drill is safer.

3.       Hanging pre-fab panels is a two person job. Raise the panel above the top bracket and slide it down through the center brackets until it  rests the flange of the bottom bracket.

4.       Install the gate with the hardware provided by the hardware provided by the manufactured or use the hardware of your choice, making sure your own hardware meets the same specifications as the hinges in the kit. Mark the end posts for the height and snap a chalk line between them to mark the intermediate posts. Use a reciprocating saw to cut the posts.
